Capt. Vaughn Says....Spoon Flies: Spoon flies are one of the most popular flies used in catching redfish. There are several spoon fly patterns available and they basically all work. Our favorites are the Dupree Spoon Fly and the Waldner Spoon Fly. In our area of Florida, the spoon fly is used extensively during the fall "flood tide" season although some anglers are using other types of crab patterns as an alternative. The biggest feature on a successful spoon fly is a strong weed guard that enables you to pull the fly through thick grass where the redfish are feeding in the marsh grass.
